ΑΙΜ OF THE PROJECT

The main purpose of DEYAVA, when all phases of the procurement are completed, is to collect the information from all Local Stations in the Control Centre and to visualise and process it. In combination with the Water Resources Management System and the electronic mapping of the water transmission and distribution network will lead, through appropriate software, to a direct global presentation of the reserves, consumption, water balance, monitoring of water quality and reduction of operating costs. Subsequently, the operation of the system will contribute to the establishment of a daily plan by the Service’s engineers and will help to achieve optimal operation of the water supply system controlled by the DEYAVA.

The basic parameter taken into account is that the Municipality of Platanias has been experiencing intense residential, holiday and rural development in recent decades, resulting in an increase in water demand and consumption, which necessarily leads to better management of water reserves through leakage control.

After the end of the supply, the existing infrastructure will be reinforced, reducing consumption and at the same time increasing drinking water reserves in an area particularly problematic in terms of sufficiency according to the River Basin Management Plan of the Water Department (GR13). At the same time, there will be benefits for a large number of consumers with lower investment costs per beneficiary.

DEYAVA currently operates a water supply network control system based on simple electromechanical automation systems. In parallel with the project, remote monitoring systems are being developed to gradually cover a large part of the external water supply aqueduct, consisting of pumping stations, boreholes and reservoirs.

The proposed action is one of the most innovative actions to ensure the principle of sustainable development, coming to meet the sustainable goal 6 (clean water) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Unpriced water has environmental consequences (exploitation of water resources, energy consumption, carbon footprint) and economic consequences (loss of revenue for water companies).

With the successful implementation of the operation, there will be a drastic reduction of unpriced water with the corresponding water tariffs which will entail the improvement of resource efficiency (water and energy), It is an action aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change through the reduction of water and electricity consumption as well as the promotion of environmental protection requirements.
